Fantistics Analysts Twitter Updates

Top Prospects 2009

David Regan

Minor League Analyst David Regan has updated the 2009 Top 100 Prospect Spreadsheet. David updates the Prospect Spreadsheet throughout the 2009 MLB season.  Here's a peek:

TOP 50 HITTING PROSPECTS 11-30
11 Yonder Alonso CIN 1B A-
Bat will move him quickly, possibly pushing Joey Votto to LF by 2010. #7 overall pick in '09.
12 Lars Anderson BOS 1B A- Could take over 1B (Youk to third) by 2010. Great all-around hitter.
13 Angel Villalona SF 1B A- 118:18 K:BB is brutal and conditioning needs to improve, but the bat could be special.
14 Eric Hosmer KC 1B A- 3rd overall pick in 2008 hit .364 in brief pro debut. Very advanced for his age.
15 Austin Jackson NYY OF A- Power is still developing, but he's probably the long-term answer in CF until Grady Sizemore is a F/A.
16 Carlos Santana CLE C A- Has the bat to push Shoppach aside, with Martinez looking like a full-time 1B this year.
17 Buster Posey SF C A- 2008 fifth overall pick should be Molina's successor by 2010. .300 / 15 HR potential.
18 Tim Beckham TAM SS A- Has some issues with this swing, but No. 1 overall pick should live up to the hype.
19 Elvis Andrus TEX SS B+ Could win SS job this spring and 54 SBs should get your attention, though power won't be there.
20 Gordon Beckham CHW SS B+ Probably will need to slide to 2B, but will have more than enough bat. Look for him in 2010.
21 Justin Smoak TEX 1B B+ Advanced college hitter could be Texas 1B by mid-2010. 11th overall pick in '08.
22 Ben Revere MIN OF B+ .379 with 44 SB and a .87 EYE. Could stand to walk a bit more to maitain a healthy OBP.
23 Logan Morrison FLA 1B B+ .404/.444/.667 in the Arizona Fall League. Easily the most impressive player there.
24 Chris Carter OAK 1B B+ Huge power potential (39 in '08) but probably winds up as a DH.
25 Alicedes Escobar MIL SS B+ .328 with 34 SB but .37 EYE is a bit of a blemish. Should move Hardy to 2B/3B or another team..soon.
26 Mike Stanton FLA OF B+ 39 HR in 468 at-bats and those weren't cheap HRs. K's are high, but upside is tremendous.
27 Andrew Lambo LAD OF B+ Has the bat speed and power to be an All-Star. 14-for-36 after late-season jump from Low-A to AA.
28 Jesus Montero NYY C B+ .326/.376/.491 in '08, so bat will play anywhere. Ability to stay at C is in doubt.
29 Fernando Martinez NYM OF B+ Grade reflects upside and age v. level rather than actual performance. Opinions vary on his upside.
30 Josh Vitters CHC 3B B+ Former #3 overall pick hasn't broken out yet, but the skills are there for a huge 2009.
