Prospect Spreadsheet Updates - June 4, 2009

David Regan

American League

1 Matt Wieters BAL C A Off to a slow start, but should be more Ryan Braun than Alex Gordon in year one.

5 Justin Smoak TEX 1B A- Just 2 HR for the year, but hard to compain too much about .325/.444/.503.

8 Gordon Beckham CHW SS A- Promoted to AAA this week, hits .464, and now onto Chicago to fill either 3B or SS…not sure yet.

13 Desmond Jennings TAM OF A- Has cooled off a bit, but still .355/.420/.569 with 6 HR and 17 SB. Impressive 14:16 K:BB in May.

14 Mike Moustakas KC 3B A- Just .162 in last 10 games and a disappointing 30:10 K:BB overall.

20 Tim Melville KC SP B+ 4-2-1-1-2-7 in last start as innings continue to be wisely limited. Could rocket up charts in 2010.

26 Mike Montgomery KC SP B 3.27 ERA and 12:10 K:BB in 11 innings. Clearly a ways from the big leagues and lots to work on.

34 Daniel Bard BOS RP B Development of curveball will be key, but hard to argue with a 1.08 ERA in 8 1/3 innings.

36 David Hernandez BAL SP B Sacramento native wins his debut start against the Tigers. Should stick around.

42 Vin Mazzaro OAK SP B 2.38 ERA in 10 starts in AAA and a fairly impressive big league debut. He should stick around.

National League

2 Jason Heyward ATL OF A No word on why he hasn't played since 5/26, but if it were very serious, we'd know about it.

3 Pedro Alvarez PIT 3B A .316 with 7 XBH's in final 10 games of May. .244/.344/.460 is a disappointment.

4 Buster Posey SF C A Hit just .245 in May. Otherwise, he'd probably be in AA by now. Soon enough…

10 Yonder Alonso CIN 1B A- .881 OPS and big May get him AA promotion where he gets three hits (2 2B) and three RBI in debut.

11 Mike Stanton FLA OF A- Looks like the power is picking up - 8 HR in May, 4 in last 10 games. .954 OPS on the year.

32 Jon Niese NYM
SP B 10.13 ERA in last 3 AAA starts including 26 hits in 16 IP. Opportunity in NY is there, but…

35 Ross Detwiler WAS SP B 2 good starts and then a 4-10-5-5-1-2 agains the Phillies. Nothing to be ashamed of there.

41 Sean West FLA SP B 6'8" lefty very impressive in first two starts and could be sticking around for awhile.

43 Antonio Bastardo PHI SP B 1.89 ERA and 50:11 K:BB in 47 2/3 innings between AA and AAA but stands just 5'11".

47 Brad Lincoln PIT SP B 0.80 ERA in May and a 5-5-2-2-2-7 start in June for former top-5 pick. Back on track finally
