We all know King Felix, Joey Votto, and Mike Trout can be great daily fantasy plays but it's Yasiel Puig, Kevin Youkilis and Jake Peavy who could really help you bring home the top prize today!

Before we get into today's recommendations, it is important to remind everyone to understand your scoring format and the pricing of the individual players on the site you're playing. These vary from site to site and all daily sites price their players differently, which could make someone a must start on one site but not another. It is also important to double check starting lineups as news often breaks after this column is written. In the space below I will break down the best plays by position and make notes as to which type of formats to utilize players. If you are new to the daily fantasy baseball scene, there are daily fantasy websites which offer one day contests. These contests are mostly salary cap games where you can take any players you want as long as you stay under the cap and meet the positional requirements and all are points-based (not roto). Please feel free to e-mail me at mleone@fantistics.com if you have any further questions regarding daily fantasy baseball.
Weather: KC-MIN is the only game with weather concerns today. Early forecasts expect scattered thunderstorms throughout the late afternoon with isolated thunderstorms into the evening. Forecasts expect a 30-50% chance of rain throughout the evening.
First Base:
Top Plays:
Joey Votto (CIN) - You know the drill, Votto is incredible against RHP (career .424 wOBA) and Juan Nicasio is one of the RHP throwing today who has the biggest problems retiring LHB's. Nicasio has yielded a .357 wOBA over the last three years to lefties and it includes a lofty 1.53 HR/9 mark. Votto is probably the strongest bet of any player going today to get on-base and Nicasio's homer issues leave him some additional upside that Votto typically doesn't hold as a line-drive machine.
Outfield
Best Values:
Vernon Wells (NYY) - Wells has compiled a solid .342 wOBA against LHP since 2011 and gets to face Scott Kazmir who as we've covered really struggles against RHB's. Wells will also be the beneficiary of an improved Yankees lineup against LHP with the additions of Kevin Youkilis and Mark Teixeira. The Yankees should put plenty of base-runners on against Kazmir which will lead to strong opportunities for Wells and his power.
Yasiel Puig (LAD) - Puig made his debut last night in fine fashion picking up a couple of hits and making a game-winning throw. Often times young players come into the draft pool priced very favorably and that appears to be the case on most sites Puig is eligible. Puig hit leadoff last night and I expect that to be the case again tonight against Clayton Richard. By now you know I'm not a big fan of Richard but it's actually a bit more than that. Puig has tremendous raw power and Richard allows 1.31 HR/9 to RHB's. Puig was posting a .600 Slugging % in a tough AA hitting environment (Southern League is a pitchers league) and I think his power is MLB ready. I think Puig has a really nice outing tonight and against guys with below average stuff, I think he's worth using early on.
Starting Pitchers:
Best Values:
Jake Peavy (CHW) - It's rare in MLB that we get games with a total of 6 but with two great SP's on the mound and two anemic offenses it's what the odds-makers have given us in Seattle tonight. Peavy is the cheaper option of the two SP's and he has similar strikeout potential to Felix. He's struggled a bit of late and his price is down after a 4 IP 6 ER outing against the Cubs but that came with 25 mph winds blowing out at Wrigley. He's still posted a strong 3.52 FIP here in May and gets a Mariners offense that is 21st in wOBA against RHP (.304) and strikes out in over 21% of their PA's.
