Marcus Semien- 2B- TEX- Hot- Semien went 2-for-4 yesterday to continue his comeback from a dreadful start. Since May 30 he has gone 15-for-29 with 3 homers, 3 doubles, 5 walks, 9 RBI, 10 runs, and 2 steals. Before this stretch Semien was slashing .173/.260/.224 and had a .209 BABIP. Regression has been his friend. This is not the first Semien has experienced a slow start. On May 29. 2022 Semien was slashing .196/.258/.268. The rest of the way Semien slashed .268/.321/.490 with 25 homers.
George Kirby- P- SEA- Hot- Kirby posted his best start of the year. It was only his 4th start of 2025, so there's not a big sample size here. That was a fairly low bar compared to Kirby's first two starts, where he was charged with a combined 11 runs in 8.2 IP. His rebound started his last time out, when he allowed 2 runs in 5 IP on 8 hits and a walk while striking out 3. Yesterday Kirby kicked it into gear and allowed 2 runs in 7 IP on 2 hits, walking none and striking out 14. He threw 69 of 96 pitches for strikes. It was against the Angels, not the best offense, but not the Rockies. This is the kind of performance Seattle was hoping to see on a regular basis. Kirby should perform closer to this than to his first outings as he goes forward.
Spencer Torkelson- 1B- DET- Stats- Torkelson went 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI. He is now slashing .237/.342/.500 with 15 homers in 268 PAs. Torkelson's AVG isn't great, but with a 12.3% BB% his OBP is respectable and his homer total is solid. He is ahead of his 31-homer pace from 2023.
Bowden Francis- P- TOR- Drop Value- With the return of Max Scherzer looming in the near future, Francis is pitching himself into the position of odd man out of the Toronto rotation. He has lost the control that made him a prime candidate to become a key member of the Blue Jays 2025 rotation. Last year he had a 1.99 BB/9. Francis has also had difficulty keeping the ball in the yard. In 2024 he had a 1.48 HR/9. Yesterday he exhibited both poor tendencies, walking 5 and serving up 2 homers in just 3.1 IPs. For the season Francis has a 3.58 BB/9 and 2.83 HR/9. His resulting 6.12 ERA is not a recipe for avoiding demotion.
Michael McGreevy- P- STL- Rise Value- McGreevy didn't toss a quality start but his 4 runs allowed on 8 hits and no walks with 5 Ks in 6 IP was good enough to get him a vote of confidence. McGreevy will get more turns in the St. Louis rotation. He has shown excellent control and an ability to keep the ball in the ballpark as he has risen up the minor league ladder. McGreevy has potential to help in ERA and WHIP categories and not hurt in the K category.
