Randal Grichuk- OF- ARI- Trade- Arizona continues being early sellers and sent Randal Grichuk to Kansas City for minor league reliever Andrew Hoffman. Grichuk will likely take over RF for Jac Caglianone, who went on the IL Grichuk's results have been disappointing this season, as he is slashing .240/.277/.457 with 7 homers in 188 PAs. His EV of 92.6 and HardHit% of 53.3% show that he is still capable of hitting at a 20+ homer pace for a full season. Also, Grichuk's xBA is 40 points above his AVG, with his .265 BABIP well below his career mark of .295. He is moving to a park that is hitter hostile but is coming from one like that also. Grichuk saw more time against southpaws even though he has reverse splits this season. He will probably get more time with Caglianone out and possibly needing another bit of minor league seasoning.
Emmanuel Clase- RP- CLE- Cold- Clase has been mentioned as a potential trade target. His effort yesterday didn't increase his attractiveness. Clase blew his 5th save of the season by giving up a homer to Jonathan India in the bottom of the 10th after Cleveland took a lead in the top half of the inning. It would have been unrealistic to expect him to repeat his 2024 season, when he saved 47 games and posted an ERA of 0.61. After yesterday Clase has a 3.23 ERA and 2.67 FIP. His FIP last season was 2.22. Clase only blew 3 saves in 74 appearances all of last season and is almost double that in 47 games in 2025. He also walked 2 yesterday and has a BB/9 of 2.28, which isn't bad in and of itself but would be his highest since his rookie season if he doesn't bring it down. Clase is still a solid reliever, but isn't at the same elite level as last season. If the Indians either just plain decide to keep him or don't get offered enough to move him to a contender, his production for the rest of the season will continue to be lower than his 2024 output.
Jonathan Aranda- 1B- TB- Stats- Aranda saw his modest 4-game hitting streak end yesterday. However, he has still been maintaining his production this month. After going hitless in the first 3 games of July, Aranda is 18-for-58 with 6 walks and a homer. His EV and HardHit% have not lessened, sitting at 93.1 and 54.7%, respectively. Aranda's BABIP is at .409 but his xBA is still over .300 and only 13 points below his AVG. He showed power in the minors and earlier this season with the Rays and his Statcast metrics indicate that he should get results again.
Jon Gray- P- TEX- Idea- Gray was charged with a blown save last night, as he gave up the tying run, but his performance was solid. He allowed the lone run (on a solo homer) in 3 IP of relief, striking out 3, walking none, and throwing 22 of 29 pitches for strikes. Gray doesn't have a role that translates to a lot of fantasy value at this point. It looks, though, that he could step in as a starter if the need should arise for the Rangers. Gray has come back strong in an injury-delayed season.
Joe Ryan- P- MIN- Cold- Ryan had arguably his second worst start of the season yesterday. The Nationals touched him for 5 runs (4 ER) on 6 hits and a walk in 5 IP. Some other items show how good Ryan has been for this being his second worst start. He recorded 5 Ks and threw 63 of 87 pitches for strikes. While Ryan's ERA for the game was 7.20. his FIP for the game was 4.29 and xFIP 2.89. For the year he has a 10-5 record with a 2.82 ERA, 10.16 K/9, and 1.78 BB/9. His chase rate is down, at 26.6%, but he still had a solid 12.3% SwStr% and 29.2% K% going into yesterday's game. Ryan has been consistently excellent and shows no signs of slowing down.
