Luis Severino- P- ATH- Idea- Severino was away from Sacramento and went back to his solid ways. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks in 5 IP in Cleveland while striking out 3. Severino's splits are extreme. At home he has a 6.68 ERA. Away his ERA is 3.09, despite allowing a total of 12 ERs in 8.2 IP across his last two road starts before the All-Star break. Last night's start was an indicator that Severino is back to being a road warrior.
Clay Holmes- P- NYM- Cold- Holmes got touched for 5 runs (4 earned) in 5.1 IP yesterday. He allowed 6 hits and walked 2 while striking out 3. Holmes has seen his stamina drop as the season has gone on. He had a stretch of 9 starts where he pitched at least 6 IP from April 20- June 7. Holmes has not gone more than 5.1 IP in his 7 starts since then. We may be seeing the longer term effect of converting Holmes from a reliever to a starter.
Kumar Rocker- P- TEX- Hot- Rocker has been hot and cold this season. Last night was a hot one. He threw 6.1 IP of scoreless ball allowing just one hit that didn't come until there were 2 outs in the 6th inning. Rocker had solid control, throwing 65 of 96 pitches for strikes. Despite that ratio of strikes to balls he did walk 3 while striking out 5. Two of the walks came to start the 4th inning in long ABs. Rocker has allowed more than 2 runs only once in his last 6 starts. He has made strides this year and will have a sharp increase in value in 2026.
Addison Barger- 3B- TOR- Hot- Barger went 4-for-4 yesterday to make him 17-for-49 for the month of July. He has 4 doubles and 4 homers in that span. Barger's power output has increased dramatically over 2024. He has 13 homers in 274 PAs after hitting 7 in 225 PAs last year. Barger's EV has jumped from 88.3 to 93.1 and his HardHit% is at 53.3% after being 38.0%. This is definitely a breakout season for Barger.
Andrew Vaughn- 1B- MIL- Hot- Vaughn has continued his revival since joining the Brewers. After picking up 2 RBI last night he set a franchise record with 12 RBI in his first 7 games as a Brewer. Vaugn went 1-for-3 with a walk and Sac Fly to raise his slash line as a Brewer to .350/.440/.750 with 2 doubles and 2 homers in 22 PAs. Before last night, Vaugn had an overall AVG of .203 for the season, including his time with the White Sox. However, his xBA was .267. He has never finished a season with an EV below 90.3 or HardHit% lower than 43.1%, and those both came in 2024. Getting out of Chicago seems to have prompted some regression and results more in keeping with Vaughn's metrics.
