In The Field
OF Matt Wallner left Wednesday's game early with back spasms. He was placed on the 10-day IL on Friday. Wallner is hitting .202 with 22 HR, 47 R, 40 RBI, and 4 SB. 3B Junior Caminero left Wednesday's game early with mid-back tightness. He returned to the lineup on Saturday. Caminero has had a monster rookie season in which he has hit .259 with 44 HR, 89 R, 108 RBI, and 7 SB. He has shown good plate skills (20% K and 6% BB) in addition to hitting the ball hard (14% Barrels and 52% Hardhit). There is also room for improvement in his batting average, given his .253 BABIP. OF Kyle Isbel left Wednesday's game early with left hamstring discomfort. 1B Nolan Schanuel started a rehab assignment on Wednesday with Triple-A Salt Lake. Schanuel has hit .266 with 10 HR, 61 R, 49 RBI, and 5 SB in 535 PA. He showed small improvements in strikeout rate (12% K), Barrel% (4%), and hard contact (29% Hardhit), but still not enough to be a mixed league relevant player. 3B Isaac Paredes (hamstring)was activated on Friday. He is going to start out DH'ing in an effort to keep him from reinjuring his hamstring before he plays in the field. Paredes was hitting .259 with 19 HR, 51 R, 50 RBI, and 0 SB in 409 PA. 3B Yoan Moncada (ankle) was not in the Angels lineup Monday-Thursday. 3B Luis Rengifo played in his place. Moncada has hit .240 with 12 HR, 39 R, 34 RBI, and 0 SB in 271 PA. OF Wilyer Abreu (calf) is expected back this weekend. He has been out with a calf injury. Abreu has had a strong season for the Red Sox. He is hitting .253 with 22 HR, 52 R, 69 RBI, and 6 SB in 395 PA. He hits the ball hard (13% Barrels and 46% Hardhit) and makes enough contact (23% K) to be a power threat with non-zero stolen bases. OF Yordan Alvarez is going to be out "a while," according to manager Joe Espada, with a significant ankle sprain. He was placed on the 10-day IL on Friday. The hope is that he can return for the final weekend series. Alvarez has been one of the biggest disappointments this year because he has only played in 48 G and has been pedestrian when on the field (.273 AVG with 6 HR, 17 R, 27 RBI, and 1 SB). OF Matt Vierling (oblique) has been shut down after experiencing renewed soreness in his left oblique. It looks like a return this season is unlikely at this point. SS Zach Neto was placed on the 10-day IL on Tuesday with a left-hand sprain. This is going to end his season. Neto hit .257 with 26 HR, 82 R, 62 RBI, and 26 SB. He has proven over the past two seasons that he is a premier five-category guy. 1B/OF Tyler Soderstrom (groin) missed all of last weekend and Tuesday this week before returning on Wednesday. Soderstrom has been awesome for the Athletics this year. He has taken a major step forward (.277 AVG with 24 HR, 72 R, 89 RBI, and 8 SB in 590 PA). SS Bo Bichette (knee) is hopeful that he can return for the playoffs. This doesn't do fantasy owners any good, but it is a positive sign for the Blue Jays. Bichette rebounded this year by hitting .311 AVG with 18 HR, 78 R, 94 RBI, and 4 SB in 628 PA. SS Corey Seager (abdomen) took "light" swings on Tuesday. He is still without a timetable for his return, but at this point, it looks like the best-case scenario is a couple of games before the end of the season. 2B Marcus Semien (foot) took batting practice on the field on Monday. Initially, he was thought to be out for the season, but as the Rangers hold onto slim playoff chances, there is some pressure to get him back. The Rangers have not publicly given a timeline for his return, so it is not guaranteed. Semien has hit .230 with 15 HR, 62 R, 62 RBI, and 11 SB. He continues to run a low BABIP due to his fly ball approach (46% FB) because he doesn't strike out much (17% K) and has speed, so he shouldn't run a .251 BABIP unless he hits too many flyballs like he does. 1B Jonathan Aranda (wrist) is expected to face live BP this weekend at the Rays' spring training complex. He has been out since late July with a fractured left wrist. Prior to the injury, Aranada was hitting .316 with 12 HR, 53 R, 54 RBI, and 0 SB in 409 PA. OF Anthony Santander (shoulder) was on rehab this week. Santander has had a dismal season for the Blue Jays. He has struggled to stay on the field (50 GP) and has underperformed when healthy (.179 AVG with 6 HR, 14 R, 18 RBI, and 0 SB). C Adley Rutschman (oblique) was cleared for a rehab assignment on Tuesday. Rutschman is hitting .227 with 9 HR, 37 R, 29 RBI, and 0 SB. C Samuel Basallo has been the Orioles' primary catcher while Rutschman is out. He is hitting .188 with 3 HR, 8 R, 13 RBI, and 0 SB. It is likely that they split time down the stretch. The Orioles are likely to address this situation heading into 2026 with a trade involving Adley Rutschman, looking like a possibility unless they commit to a C/DH rotation for Rutschman and Basallo. C Logan O'Hoppe was activated off the 7-day concussion IL on Monday. O'Hoppe started off the year hot but has cooled down. He is hitting .215 with 19 HR, 35 R, 43 RBI, and 2 SB in 420 PA. He continues to swing and miss too much (32% K). SS Anthony Volpe (shoulder) had played just once in the last eight games before starting the last three. The Yankees have been playing SS Jose Caballero instead. Volpe has struggled (.208 AVG with 19 HR, 61 R, 71 RBI, and 16 SB) but provided fantasy value. It will be important to track his playing time because if he is not playing every day, he doesn't have much value. Caballero has a ton of value if he plays every day, given his speed (.234 AVG with 5 HR, 50 R, 35 RBI, and 48 SB). 3B Jordan Westburg was activated on Tuesday. He is hitting .268 with 15 HR, 54 R, 34 RBI, and 1 SB in 314 PA. 2B Zack Gelof dislocated his left shoulder on Friday night, attempting to make a diving play. He is going to miss the rest of the season and finishes with a .174 AVG with 2 HR, 12 R, 7 RBI, and 1 SB in 101 PA. 2B Colt Keith was placed on the 10-day IL on Friday with right rib cage inflammation. He is eligible to return September 30, which ends his regular season, but they are hoping to get him back for the playoffs. Keith hit .253 with 13 HR, 65 R, 45 RBI, and 1 SB in 468 PA. OF Wyatt Langford was out of the Rangers' lineup on Friday and Saturday due to left side tightness. Langford is hitting .241 with 21 HR, 72 R, 61 RBI, and 21 SB. He has managed to go 20/20, but his strikeout rate has jumped from 21% to 27%. OF Roman Anthony (oblique) has started non-baseball activities like walking and riding an exercise bike. This was the first update since he was placed on the IL on September 3rd. The Red Sox are hoping to get him back before the end of the season as they prepare for the playoffs. OF Nolan Jones was placed on the 10-day IL on Saturday with a right oblique injury.
On The Mound
Ryan Bergert was placed on the 15-day IL with forearm tightness on Thursday. This will likely end his rookie season. He finishes with a 3.66 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 76.1 IP. His surface stats look good, but the underlying skills paint a different picture. He has an average strikeout rate (23% K) and too many walks (11% BB). Jose Soriano left Wednesday's start with a right forearm contusion. He took a line drive off his forearm. Soriano has a 4.26 ERA and 1.40 WHIP through 169 IP. He did not take a step forward this year. He was unable to find a reliable offspeed pitch, which led to more swing and misses. He has good velocity and has an elite ground ball rate (65% GB), but to take the next step, he will need to miss more bats. Tyler Mahle (shoulder) was activated off the 60-day IL on Friday and started against the Marlins (4.2 IP, 0 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, and 6 K). Mahle has a 2.20 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 9% K:BB through 81.2 IP. The underlying skills don't line up with this level of success (18% K, 9% BB, and 4.76 SIERA). He has benefited from a .258 BABIP and 83% LOB. Logan Evans (elbow) threw a scoreless inning for Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday as part of his rehab assignment. The Mariners do not need another starter right now, so when he does return, it will likely be in a bullpen role. Evans has a 4.37 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and 8% K:BB in 78.1 IP. Seth Lugo (back) threw a bullpen on Monday but did not respond well afterwards, so he has been shut down from throwing for a few days. Lugo has a 4.15 ERA and 1.29 WHIP through 145.1 IP. It seems unlikely that he will return in 2025. Lance McCullers Jr. is unlikely to return this season due to right-hand soreness. McCullers Jr. has struggled this year (6.88 ERA and 1.85 WHIP), so there is no rush to get him back. Bowden Francis (shoulder) threw live BP on Monday and Friday. He is still unlikely to return this season, but getting good reports heading into the offseason will be critical for him and the Blue Jays. He had a disappointing 2025 season (6.05 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, and 9% K:BB). Cole Ragans returned from the IL on Wednesday. He went 3.2 IP, 2 ER, 1 H, 42 BB, and 4 Ks. He was throwing 97 mph in the first but dropped to 94/95 mph for the rest of the outing. Ragans has struggled this year (5.16 ERA and 1.26 WHIP), but a lot of it has been due to bad luck (28% K:BB, 2.75 SIERA, .362 BABIP, and 62% LOB). Bryan Woo left Friday's start early with pectoral tightness. He had gone five scoreless innings before leaving. He is going to have an MRI to see the severity of the injury. Woo has been awesome this year (2.94 ERA and 0.93 WHIP across 186.2 IP). Pablo Lopez also left his start early with right forearm tightness. Lopez has pitched limited innings this year (75.2 IP) but has been good when on the mound (2.74 ERA and 1.11 WHIP). He was placed on the 15-day IL on Saturday. Chris Bassitt was placed on the 15-day IL with lower back inflammation. He finishes with a 3.96 ERA and 1.33 WHIP through 170.1 IP.
In The Bullpen
Kyle Finnegan (groin) started a rehab assignment on Thursday with Triple-A Toledo and returned to the Tigers on Friday. He hadn't given up a run in twelve appearances for the Tigers before Saturday, which included four saves. Lucas Erceg was placed on the 15-day IL with a right shoulder impingement. He has pitched well this year (2.64 ERA in 61.1 IP). Keegan Aiken had a monster week for fantasy owners with 3 SV (8). David Bednar picked up another save for the Yankees. He has a 2.75 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, and 8 SV in 17 GP for the Yankees. The Rays' bullpen had a rough week with three blown saves (Garrett Cleavinger, Bryan Baker, and Edwin Uceta). Pete Fairbanks picked up his 27th save on Wednesday. Grant Taylor returned from injury on Wednesday and got a save on Friday. Taylor has a 5.35 ERA and 1.46 WHIP, but his underlying skills point towards a dominant reliever. He has an elite strikeout rate (34% K), gets ground balls (51% GB), and his walk rate is manageable (10%BB). Taylor has been hurt by a .420 BABIP. It appears that the White Sox will use both Jordan Leasure and Taylor to close out games. Cade Smith blew the save on Tuesday but picked up the win. He will continue to be a top-tier option heading into 2026 (3.06 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 35% K, and 7% BB). The Athletics got four saves this week, with Hogan Harris and Michael Kelly each getting two. Harris has a 3.30 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, 23% K, and 13% BB, while Kelly has a 2.89 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 17% K, and 12% BB. Both will continue to be options to end the year, but neither should be considered options next year. Bryan Abreu picked up two more saves (7) as he fills in for Josh Hader.
Players to add this week:
SP Tyler Wells (BAL)- Through 3 GS, Tyler Wells has a 2.04 ERA and 0.62 WHIP. He has shown excellent control (2% BB) and the ability to miss enough bats (22% K and 11% SwStr). He's not going to be this good over a full season (3.74 SIERA), but he is worth streaming against the Rays to end the year.
SS Jose Caballero (NYY)-The Yankees have been playing SS Jose Caballero more lately. Anthony Volpe has struggled (.208 AVG with 19 HR, 61 R, 71 RBI, and 16 SB). Caballero has a ton of value if he plays every day, given his speed (.234 AVG with 5 HR, 50 R, 35 RBI, and 48 SB). He has started 8 of the last 10 games.
OF Parker Meadows (DET)- Parker Meadows is playing every day and leading off for the Tigers. He has hit .317 with 2 HR, 6 R, 6 RBI, and 1 SB since coming off the injured list. Playing regularly, a good spot in the lineup, and power/speed potential make Meadows a good add.
OF Dominic Canzone (SEA)-Dominic Canzone is hitting .299 with 10 HR, 26 R, 28 RBI, and 2 SB in 244 PA. He has played in four of the last five games. Canzone has hit .400 with 3 HR in September.
2B Romy Gonzalez (BOS)- Romy Gonzalez has had a regular role recently. He is hitting .298 with 9 HR, 43 R, 49 RBI, and 5 SB in 315 PA. Gonzalez makes contact (24% K) and hits the ball hard (13% Barrels and 57% Hardit).
3B Jake Burger (TEX)-Jake Burger has had an up-and-down first year in Texas. He is hitting .240 with 16 HR, 43 R, 50 RBI, and 1 SB. Burger has shown good skills (24$% K and 14% Barrels). He has been swinging a hot bat in the second half (.290 AVG with 5 HR, 10 R, 15 RBI, and 0 SB).
OF Dalton Varsho (TOR)- Daulton Varsho is hitting .235 with 18 HR, 37 R, 50 RBI, and 2 SB. He's been a monster in the second half (.256 AVG with 10 HR, 23 R, 30 RBI, and 1 SB). Varsho hits the ball hard (16% Barrel) and in the air (55% FB), which is why he has 18 HR in 239 PA.
SP Ian Seymour (TBR)-Ian Seymour has a 2.54 ERA and 1.05 WHIP through 49.2 IP. The pure stuff isn't great, but he has been able to dominate the minors (2.62 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 24% K:BB in 86 IP at Triple-A). He has looked good in his first taste of the big leagues. He has struck out 27% of batters while walking 7%. The core skills are there for him to be a usable starter with more upside than someone throwing 92 mph, but his command allows for everything to work.
