Jacob Misiorowski- P- MIL- Great Player- An off night for The Miz would be a start any other pitcher would be glad to have. He put up his 8th straight quality start, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits, walking 1, and striking out 7 in 6 IP. The Miz ended up taking to loss because the Milwaukee offense couldn't muster more than one run while he was in the game and ended up losing 3-2. His control is still amazing, with 65 of his 91 pitches being strikes. Miz's last pitch was a called strike that came in at "only" 99.6 mph. Don't worry about him losing speed late, though. In that same AB against Austin Riley, two pitches came in at a speed of least 101.2 mph. The Miz is on an otherworldly plane right now. He is overperforming as his 1.45 ERA is below his 1.65 FIP. (Did I write "overperform" with a straight face?)
Martin Perez- P- ATL- Hot- Someday years from now, when Perez is talking to his grandchildren, he can spin a tale of the game where he outdueled The Miz. Perez didn't necessarily pitch better than The Miz, but he ended up with the win. He allowed a single run on 6 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5 in 6 IP. It was only his second quality start of the season, but his record is 6-3. Perez has a 2.78 with a 3.70 FIP. He has 56 Ks in 68 IPs. He had a 20.8% K% heading into last night's game, which is above his career mark of 16.5%. Perez has performed as a solid, but not elite, starter this season.
Bryan Woo- P- SEA- Hot - Thursday, Woo pitched the last traditional start for the Mariners until at least the All-Star Break. He made it count. Woo tossed 7 shutout IPs, allowing 3 hits, walking 1 and striking out 9. His ERA is now down to 3.94. Regression was due for Woo, whose FIP is 3.07. This follows two starts in which he allowed a total of 12 runs in 11.1 IPs. Seattle is now going to be using 6 starters, but not in a 6-man rotation. Every starter will be in a piggyback situation. The plan is to keep them on regular rest and have one starter throw 5 IPs and the piggyback take up the other 4. We'll have to see how this plays out to determine the actual fantasy fallout. The expected net impact is for each of the six to throw fewer IPS until the Break.
Ty France- 1B- SD- Hot- France went 3-for-4 with 2 homers and a double off Jacob deGrom, including a grand slam. France is now slashing .259/.306/.490 with 8 homers in 158 PAs. His average jumped 14 points and his SLG 56 points. His production has been close to his metrics and his preseason projections. Don't count on last night's performance heralding a lengthy hot streak for France.
Randal Grichuk- OF- CHW- Hot- Grichuk has performed well since joining the White Sox last month. Last night he went 2-for-3 with a homer, double, and walk. Grichuk was slashing .194/.212/.323 in his 16 games with the Yankees. Now he is slashing .273/.311/.556 with 7 homers in 106 PAs for the season. Grichuk's EV is 91.0 and his HardHIt% is 47.2%. He has increased his plate discipline. Grichuk's K% was 30.3% with the Yankees and is now at 24.5%. While his xSLG (before yesterday) of .591 since coming to Chicago was slightly below his SLG of .600, his xBA of .339 was way above his AVG of .292. Grichuk seems to have found a comfortable home with the White Sox.
