The Rangers and Astros are playing as part of the Silver Boot Series this weekend. There are also items form those teams that have fantasy impact.
Nathan Eovaldi- P- TEX- Stats- Eovaldi lasted less than 5 IP in his first two starts of the season. Since then He has lasted at least 5 IP in every start and failed to last 6 IP only 3 times in 19 outings. Eovaldi has posted 10 quality starts and struck out 120 in 111.1 IP. His ERA and FIP are 4.04 but his WHIP is 1.18. Eovaldi's stamina has been a big part of recording 9 wins. He has been very consistent, even if not in the elite category of production. Eovaldi is in the top 15 in Wins, Ks, and IPs.
Hunter Brown- P- HOU- FYI- Brown managed to get a quality start last night but did it the hard way. He allowed 3 runs on 4 hits in 6 IP. However, he walked 5 and struck out only 4. Brown had serious control issues in his 5th start since coming off the IL. He threw 55 of his 98 pitches for strikes. It wasn't until the 5th inning that Brown had more strikes thrown than balls. In his last two starts he has walked 9 in 10 IP. Browen is not back to his pre-injury form.
Cal Quantrill- P- TEX- Hot- Quantrill has gone from opener to a more important part of the rotation over the course of his 4 starts since making the conversion from reliever. His IPs have gone from 2 to 4 to 5 to 6 last night. Quantrill recorded his first quality start since July 19, 2025. He allowed just 1 run on 5 hits and a walk while striking out 1 in 6 IP. Quantrill was efficient, needing only 79 pitches to get through his outing. However, he threw 47 strikes so a lot of the pitch count was from inducing contact. In his first 3 starts Quantrill has a 2.45 ERA but 4.84 FIP. He has been showing improvement in each start, so it's worth keeping an eye on him to see if his performance as a starter is a return to his 2022 production of a 3.38 ERA
Justin Foscue- 1B- TEX- Idea- Foscue entered last night's game when the Astros brought in a southpaw. Although he ended up striking out in both of his PAs (against LH pitchers both times) the reason was apparent. Thursday, Foscue hit his 7th homer of the season. Five of those had come in 58 PAs against LH pitchers. He had a slash line against southpaws of .367/.311/.615. If you have the luxury of having a roster spot you can use to hold for a player who will get starts against LH pitching, Foscue can provide some return.
Yordan Alvarez- OF- HOU- Great Player- Alvarez went 2-for-4 with a homer that was Houston's first run of the game. It was his 30th of the season. Alvarez has a 14.4% BB% but has not walked in his last 7 games. This may not continue. There is a good chance that teams will start pitching around Alvarez more and he won't get as many chances to knock one out.
