Jose Altuve (2B-HOU) went 1-5 with a 3-run blast in a loss at the Nationals on Monday. Altuve might be finally slowing down at age 36 as he now owns a .235 average, 9 HR, 25 RBI, 42 RBI, and 2 steals (in 4 attempts) through 296 PA this season. His 21.5% strikeout rate is easily a career high as his 10.5% swinging-strike rate is a career worst, as are his 86.5% in-zone contact rate and 77% overall contact rate. Meanwhile, Altuve's Statcast metrics are about as unimpressive as usual, with a 32% hard-hit rate, 6% barrel rate, and average exit velocity of 85.5 mph. In the past, his production rode on high rates of contact, but with that gone and his wheels fading there's to fuel his fantasy value.
Salvador Perez (1B-KC) went 3-4 with a solo dinger and 2B as the Royals put up 15 runs on the Phillies on Monday. Salvy is looking every one of his 36 years in 2026 as he's hitting just .209 with 11 HR, 33 RBI, and 30 runs scored through 349 PA. While his contact metrics (76% overall and 87% in zone) and strikeout rate (20%) align with his career norms, Perez has seen his Statcast metrics dip significantly from recent years to a 41% hard-hit rate (46.5% in 2025), 9% barrel rate (14.5%), and average exit velocity of 88.5 mph (90). Those numbers are by no means bad, but they don't work well with his flyball-oriented approach (42% flyballs). Father Time comes for us all, and it seems he has for Salvador Perez.
Curtis Mead (1B/3B-WSH) went 3-5 with a 2B, HR, 3 RBI, and 2 runs scored as the Nationals topped the Astros on Monday. The 25 year-old's .240 average might not impress, but he's ripped 15 HR while driving in 42 runs, scoring 40, and chipping in 5 steals across 276 PA. Mead has commanded the dish well with a 19% strikeout rate against an 11% walk rate while making a lot of contact overall (84.5%), but especially in the zone (91.5%). His Statcast metrics are up this season, with career bests in hard-hit rate (42%) and barrel rate (11%) while his average launch angle of 16.1 has generated a combined 52% liner-flyball rate. Consider acquiring Mead as his .246 BABIP seems unlucky and his quality of contact metrics are, well, quality.
Griffin Jax (SP-TB) took the L against the Yankees on Monday as he yielded 3 runs on 1 hit and 2 walks while recording 10 punchouts over 5 IP. The 31 year-old righty served up one big fly while firing 51 of his 81 offerings for strikes in the contest. Jax has been a pleasant surprise in 2026, compiling a 3.60 ERA, 9.4 K/9, 3.1 BB/9, and 3.46 xFIP through 65 IP. He's missed bats (13.5% swinging-strike rate) and limited the opposition to an 85% in-zone contact rate while getting them to chase (33% o-swing%) and limiting their o-contact% to 50.5%. There has, however, been a good bit of loud contact as Statcast shows a 41.5% hard-hit rate, 10.5% barrel rate, and average exit velocity of 89 mph. That's a bit concerning given his below-average control, and that's something that bit him on Monday as the only hit recorded against him was a Jose Caballero homer that came after he walked a pair of batters. He'll look to harness his control and keep the ball in the yard when the Mariners visit Florida this weekend.
Dustin May (SP-STL) was sharp in an abbreviated outing against the Brewers on Monday, firing 4.2 scoreless IP in which he scattered 4 hits and walked none while racking up 7 punchouts. He was appearing on short rest after he exited Thursday's start prematurely when a comebacker struck his right ankle, and so reports before the game indicated that he would be limited to about 65 pitches; he was allowed to throw 81 pitches, 55 of which went for strikes. The 28 year-old RHP now owns a 4.55 IP through 89 IP on the year, but that comes with a solid 3.73 xFIP, 8.6 K/9, and 2.4 BB/9. An unlucky .323 BABIP and 64% strand rate are inflating his ERA, but May has also yielded a bunch of loud contact as Statcast shows a 46.5% hard-hit rate, 7% barrel rate, and average exit velo of 90 mph while his 10% swinging-strike rate isn't exciting and the opposition has posted an 88.5% in-zone contact rate against him. He'll face a challenge when the Braves visit town this coming weekend.
