2 Pedro Alvarez PIT 3B A 3-for-4 with HR and 2B, 4 RBI in 2009 debut. Could they rush him with LaRoche's struggles?

3 Jason Heyward ATL OF A 6-for-25 with 3 XBH but just one walk. .871 OPS and 15 SB in Low-A a year ago for this stud.

9 Andrew McCutcheon PIT OF A- 3 hits Tuesday to bump him to .276 in 29 at-bats with 3:3 K:BB.

10 Buster Posey SF C A- 6-for-19 with 2 HR and 2:3 K:BB in the very early going. Candidate to hit #1 overall later this year.

11 Yonder Alonso CIN 1B A- .308 with 4 HR in 104 at-bats in Hawaiian Winter League. Should push Votto to LF by 2010.

34 Mat Latos SD SP B Opening in exended spring due to yet another injury, this time an ankle.

40 Jeff Samardzija CHC RP B Pitching out of the bullpen, Samardzija alllowed 3 runs in 2 IP in his first outing. Should return to starting.

42 Brad Holt NYM SP B 3 2/3 innings, 9 ER, 3 HR in an ugly debut. Held batters to .187 AVG in NYP league last year.

43 Ross Detwiler WAS SP B Allowed 2 runs (none earned) over five innings in '09 debut. Can he overcome '08 disappointment.

46 Josh Lindblom LAD SP B 08 2nd rounder was the talk of camp. Strong first start in AA and could be up later this year.

American League

1 Matt Wieters BAL C A 4-for-18 (all singles) to open the year. ETA is still around the June timeframe.

21 Justin Smoak TEX 1B B+ 5-for-20 with 3 XBH. Skipping High-A, so there may be a bit of an adjustment. AL

24 Ben Revere MIN OF B+ Slow start (5-for-19, SB) compared to last year's .379/44 SB season. No worries though. AL

46 Greg Halman SEA OF B 4-for-26 (3 XBH) with concerning 10:1 K:BB. Keep age in mind.

48 Dayan Viciedo CHW 3B B 7-for-20 in first 5 games, though no walks is a bit of a concern. 1 XBH and 1 SB.

8 Trevor Cahill OAK SP A- Nice rebound in start #2.
Will likely stick in OAK this year but not really blossom until '10 or '11., AL

10 Brett Anderson OAK SP A- 6 IP, 5 ER and a loss in his debut. Jitters perhaps, or is he just not ready? AL

11 Brian Matusz BAL SP A- 2 ER in 6 IP in his debut, striking out 6. Might be a Sept. call-up and compete for '10 rotation slot. AL

16 Michael Bowden BOS SP B+ 4 2/3 scoreless in '09 debut. Should be up this year, but maybe with another organization.

18 Jake Arrieta BAL SP B+ O's exercising caution - 4 IP in start #1. One hit and eight strikeouts for a strong debut.
