Cristopher Sanchez (SP - PHI) - With Wheeler and Nola doing their usual stuff and Suarez, Turnbull, and Sanchez impressing in various amounts, is Taijuan Walker back to the rotation this weekend really a thing? Sanchez struggled a bit on Tuesday in his bid for 3 straight QS, but it looks a lot worse than it truly was due to 3 Phillie errors. He scuffled a bit with his control (3 BB and 2 WP in 3 IP), but with a 50% zone rate that also wasn't as bad as you might think. The GB rate was at its typically elite level, his velocity was up even more than the 1.8 mph he's already up this season, and in general I remain very impressed. He remains a target of mine in all formats....he still seems generally undervalued to me. It's also possible, depending on the return of Taijuan Walker, that Sanchez could get two starts next week (@LAA, SF), which would make him an even better target after this subpar outing.
Riley Greene (OF - DET) - Greene was most of the Tiger offense in their 4-2 win over Tampa on Tuesday, hitting two homers to knock in three runs and adding a walk. That walk is part of a trend that is key to Greene's development this season, as he has become extremely patient, dropping his swing% from 47 to 39 so far this year. It's helped his contact rate, and it's clearly helped his OBP as well, which rests at a comfy .402 after Tuesday's contest. The EV remains above average (and will climb after the 2 108 mph HRs Tuesday), the contact ability is approaching average, and the improved patience is unquestionably helping his productivity. Still just 23, it's hard not to be very high on Greene moving forward.
Wilyer Abreu (OF - BOS) - Abreu homered on Tuesday, extending his hitting streak to 5 games, 4 of which have involved an XBH. He's been extremely fortunate in his 46 games in the majors, posting a BABIP of .422 with "only" above-average exit velocity, but the 24 year old does offer an intriguing power/speed combination to go along with the seemingly standard contact issues that go along with that profile. He hit 24 HR last season between AAA and MLB in just 375 AB, and he's already stolen 4 bases this year, so clearly he has 20/20 potential, and with Casas and Story on the shelf for a while it feels like his PT is reasonably secure now. I think he's a reasonable starting OF in most formats as long as that situation persists.
Luis Severino (SP - NYM) - Severino tossed his second straight quality start on Tuesday, holding the Giants to 3 runs in the 5th over 6 innings, allowing 5 hits and no walks while fanning 5. The control has been spotty and he isn't missing quite as many bats as he used to, but the massive GB rate of over 60% is helping him remain productive. I think he's a decent back-end SP in all formats, and the stuff still seems intact, so there may even be room for a bit of a return to better BB and K rates as well. It might be all my years of watching him, but I feel optimistic here.
Jo Adell (OF - LAA) - Adell singled, doubled, and was hit by a pitch on Tuesday, giving him hits in 5 straight starts as he has begun to earn more playing time. For a guy in his 8th season of pro ball, he still seems incredibly raw. The max exit velocity shows well above average power, but he's so undisciplined that he rarely accesses it. He has a ton of speed and has swiped 6 bases, but he's constantly running into outs on the basepaths that are costing him playing time as well. He was picked off again on Tuesday, for example. There is still so much potential here, but I just don't have a ton of faith in it being realized...he's 25 now after all, and there hasn't been much progress. I don't mind a speculative add in deeper and AL-only leagues, just because of the upside, but the floor here is non-existent and it isn't a risk I'd take yet in standard formats.
