The batting average remains held back by a 25% strikeout rate, but his 12% Barrel rate and 54% HardHit continue to support the power. Over the last two weeks, Alonso has hit .244 with 2 HR, 7 R, and 10 RBI across 52 PA, although a 35% strikeout rate has kept the batting average in check despite a 17% Barrel rate. He remains one of fantasy baseball's premier power hitters and should continue to provide elite home run and RBI production.
Luis Garcia Jr.-Nationals-1B
Luis García Jr. went 2-5 with an HR (19), 1 R, 2 RBI, and 1 SB against the Pirates. He is putting together a breakout season, hitting .282 with 19 HR, 42 R, 64 RBI, and 3 SB through 294 PA. García has paired excellent contact skills (15% K) with above-average power, as evidenced by his 10% Barrel rate and 47% HardHit. He has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball over the last two weeks, batting .395 with 8 HR, 11 R, and 16 RBI across 43 PA, while posting an incredible 24% Barrel rate. The recent surge looks legitimate, and he's quickly becoming a must-start option in all fantasy formats.
A.J. Ewing-Mets-OF
A.J. Ewing went 2-for-4 with a HR, 1 R, and 1 RBI against the Yankees. He has gotten off to a solid start in the majors, hitting .265 with 5 HR, 20 R, 20 RBI, and 8 SB through 190 PA. Ewing has shown a balanced fantasy profile with an 11% walk rate and enough speed to make an impact on the bases, though the 25% strikeout rate could lead to some batting average volatility. His underlying quality of contact is still developing (7% Barrel rate and 43% HardHit), but he has already demonstrated the ability to contribute in multiple categories. At just 49 games into his MLB career, Ewing looks like an intriguing young fantasy asset with room to grow as he gains more experience.
Aaron Nola-Phillies-SP
Aaron Nola went 7 IP and gave up 3 ER on 7 H, 0 BB, and 7 K's against the Royals. It's been a frustrating season for Aaron Nola, who owns a 5.87 ERA and 1.46 WHIP across 92.0 IP. While the 23% strikeout rate and 15% K-BB% remain respectable, he has been plagued by the long ball (1.86 HR/9), leading to far worse results than fantasy managers expected. June offered little encouragement, as he posted a 6.67 ERA while allowing 2.86 HR/9 despite maintaining nearly identical strikeout and walk rates. His 4.00 SIERA suggests he has pitched better than the ERA shows, but until he starts keeping the ball in the yard, he'll remain a volatile fantasy option. It has now been a year and a half of an ERA over 6.00, so believing in a turnaround based on his name value is a fool's errand despite today's quality start.
