George Springer, OF, Toronto Blue Jays
Springer went 3-4 with 2 R, 2 HR, 7 RBI, and BB on a huge day at the plate. Springer is having a tremendous year offensively, so days like this are not surprising. He has started off with a 40.1% LA Sweet Spot and a 12.7% BB rate, making him valuable in points leagues as well.
Edward Cabrera, SP, Miami Marlins
Cabrera stunned a Twins lineup by going 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K on 8 hard hit balls. Cabrera has gone at least 5 IP and allowed 2 ER or fewer three starts in a row. His development is important as he could find himself on a much better team if he gets traded by the end of July. Both the present scenario and the future one where he gets traded are sell high opportunities. Cabrera strikes out guys (25%), but his average ground ball rate (44%) and high EV against (90.1), mean there are some quality of contact issues. He's running a .390 xwOBACON this year after posting a .400 last year. The ceiling is limited, and xERA (4.12) and FIP (4.05) agree that he has more value in real life than fantasy.
Daniel Palencia, RP, Chicago Cubs
Palencia threw a clean 9th with two punchouts to secure the victory against the Guardians. Palencia does the two most important things you can do as a pitcher. He strikes guys out (28.9%) and limits barrels (2.9%). The 2.9% rate is suspiciously low for a guy that has league average hard hit (41.4%) and groundball rates (40%) against, so I'd expect that to rise unfortunately. The high K rate is also suspicious given the league average whiff rate (24.6%).
Kyle Stowers, OF, Miami Marlins
Stowers went 2-4 with R, HR, RBI, and K on two hard hit balls. Stowers' insane quality of contact means he needs to be in your lineup every day. 91st Percentile bat speed allows him to run a .513 xwOBACON and 52.7% hard hit rate. Don't let the 28.5% punch out rate too fool you, hitters with this kind of contact quality don't grow on trees. Play Kyle Stowers every day.
Andre Pallante, SP, St. Louis Cardinals
Pallante was the star of the show going 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K on only 5 hard hit balls. Pallante is a premium ground ball getter, coming in at an insane 64.1%. Unfortunately it comes with no punchouts (16%), so the effect is negated. He has a league average .369 xwOBACON against, just primarily driven by the 45.1% hard hit rate against. I don't buy it, sell.
