Yesterday was the first day after the trading deadline. The dust was settling from the plethora of deals as players joined teams and teams made plans based on the new landscape.
Carlos Correa- SS- HOU- Trade- Correa played 3B for his new/old team last night. He also got moved to SS late, but 3B will be his new home. He should gain availability there in short order. The question is whether it will be worth it to use him as a fantasy 3B. For the season, Correa is slashing .264/.315/.381 with 7 homers in 368 PAs. His EV is a solid 91.1, HardHit% is 47.4% and his xBA is 15 points above his actual AVG. Still, Correa's hit a career-high 26 homers in 2021 and has seen his total drop every season since then. His Statcast numbers have been relatively stable. Expecting a return to Correa's previous Astros numbers would be a long shot.
Mike Yastrzemski- OF- KC- Trade- Yastrzemski gave an immediate benefit to his new team, homering in his first AB as a Royal. It was his 9th homer of the season. Yastrzemski has seen a decline in power this season after hitting 18 homers in 474 PAs in 2024. His SLG dropped from .437 to .364. Yastrzemski has seen only slight declines in his EV (from 90.4 to 89.9) and HardHit% (from 40.8% to 39.1%.) The park home he has now is hitter-hostile, but so was Oracle Park, so that won't make much of a difference. He has increased his BB% from 8.0% to 12.5%. He will probably get starts against RH pitching and could increase his homer pace.
Andrew Kittredge- RP- CHC- Trade- Kittredge earned his 8th hold of the season in his first game with the Cubs. He retired all 3 batters he faced, two by strikeout. Kittredge has a 3.34 ERA identical to his 3.34 FIP. Moving from the cellar-dwelling Orioles to the contending Cubs will give him more opportunities to register holds. Kittredge's value is in leagues that counts those and not just saves. With a 9.46 K/9 he will add some in that category. Baltimore used him multiple times per week and Chicago may do that also.
Jhoan Duran- RP- PHI- Trade- Duran was extremely efficient in earning his first save as a Phillie. He needed just 4 pitches, all strikes, to finish off the 9th inning. Due to maths, you can tell that Duran didn't register a strikeout, something he usually does at least once per inning (9.48 K/9.) He had 16 saves in 18 opportunities with Minnesota. Duran could quite possibly get that many for the Phillies in the last 2 months of the season. His ERA is 1.97 and FIP is 2.50.
Danny Coulombe- RP- TEX- Trade- Coulombe made his Texas debut and performed as he had in Minnesota. Coulombe tossed a scoreless 7th inning, retiring all three hitters he faced, 2 by strikeout. He earned his 9th hold of the season. In leagues that count holds as well as saves Coulombe's value increases. Given that Robert Garcia blew his 4th save in 13 opportunities, Bruce Bochy may try using Coulombe or Phil Maton as closers, despite neither of them occupying that role before.
