American League

4 Justin Smoak TEX 1B A Just .240 in 183 AAA at-bats. .930 OPS in AA, but finding the next level tougher.

7 Desmond Jennings TAM OF A- 10 HR, 45 SB, .394 OBP could = Carl Crawford's replacement in 2010.

8 Jesus Montero NYY C A- Only thing this hitting machine doesn't do is run. .951 OPS and he may stick at catcher.

9 Chris Carter OAK 1B A- 85 at-bats in Aug - .424/.528/.800. 1.011 OPS overall - just can't stop him right now.

10 Matt LaPorta CLE OF A- Has hit in all six games since returning to the majors. Should finally be up to stay.

18 Mike Montgomery KC SP B+ #36 overall pick in 2008 draft has a 2.36 ERA and 80:35 K:BB in 91 1/3 IP.

22 Casey Crosby DET SP B+ IP are limited, but 0.78 ERA in his last 10 starts (46 IP) with 49:14 K:BB.

27 Jason Knapp CLE SP B+ Command is just so-so (4.2 BB/9), but 11.5 K/9 at age 18 in full-season ball is impressive.

29 Matt Moore TAM SP B Rolling along nicely until last start - 6 ER in 3 2/3 IP. Overall: 3.07 ERA and 12.5 K/9.

30 Zach McAllister NYY SP B Back from shoulder injury - 11 K in 4 2/3 IP in one recent start.3.24 ERA in August.

National League

17 Donovan Tate SD OF A- Debut won't come until 2010 due to a stress reaction in his pubic bone. Ouch.

18 Josh Vitters CHC 3B A- 0 HR in first 28 High-A games and 3 in last 10 with a .342 AVG.

25 Jason Castro HOU C B+ 4 multi-hit games in last 5 and a solid .841 OPS for the year. Should be starter by 2011.

27 Brandon Allen ARI 1B B+ Should see regular playing time at 1B the rest of the way. Starter Opening Day 2010? Probably.

33 Brett Lawrie MIL 2B B Didn't see this coming: promotion from Low-A right to AA. Had .802 OPS with 19 SB and 13 HR.

1 Stephen Strasburg WAS SP A Will be #1 until he has 50+ IP under his belt in the majors.

2 Madison Bumgarner SF SP A Still a 1.93 overall ERA, but just 42:22 K:BB in last three months (71 IP).

6 Kyle Drabek PHI SP A- 7 shutout innings in last start. 3.02 ERA and 8.5 K/9 on the season.

7 Mat Latos SD SP A- Scuffling a bit lately, but likely up to stay. Could even start on Opening Day 2010.

9 Tim Alderson PIT SP A- Rebounded from tough outing with 6-6-3-3-2-6. 6'6" RHP still has room to fill out.
