Prospect Spreadsheet Updates - August 5, 2010

David Regan

If you're wondering where the likes of Bryce Harper and Jameson Taillon are on my top 50s, they won't be there until they sign a pro contract. Both should do so sometime this month, and I've already decided that Harper's once-in-a-generation skills warrant a debut at #1 overall. Taillon will probably fall in the 12-15 range among the top 50 pitchers.

American League

1 Jeremy Hellickson TB SP A Yes, 7-3-2-2-2-6 is an impressive debut. Doesn't look like more than a one-shot deal though.

9 Kyle Gibson MIN SP A- Tough June, but he's rebounded lately. Likely won't see him in MIN this year. '11 rotation candidate.

11 Martin Perez TEX SP A- 7.20 ERA in July, but 86 K in 85 IP for his age in AA is quite impressive.

14 Matt Moore TB SP A- 10+ K in each of last 3 GS and 5 of last 7. 1.72 ERA in July and in need of promotion.

15 Michael Pineda SEA SP B+ 18:2 K:BB and 2.04 ERA in last 17.2 innings over 3 GS. Ready for next step.

43 Manny Banuelos NYY SP B Appendectomy delayed season - 1.16 ERA and 33:8 K:BB in first 23.1 innings. AL

44 Casey Crosby DET SP B Sore elbow gets him shut down for the year. Will need to earn his way back up these charts. AL

45 Aaron Crow KC SP B 3.00 ERA in last 4 GS, but 8 BB in last 2 and a mediocre 85:53 K:BB in 115.1 IP. AL

48 Alexander Torres TB SP B 3.24 ERA and 9.5 K/9 for left-hander. Has cut BB/9 from 4.9 to 4.4 over last year. AL

49 Danny Duffy KC SP B Now that his life is back on track, he only adds to the very deep KC farm system. AL

National League

31 Chris Withrow LAD SP B 7-9-4-3-2-6 in last start is a big improvement, but we need to see more. Disappointing year to be sure.

37 Zack Wheeler SF SP B 2 ER in last 12.2 innings, but will they wait until 2011 to put him back in the rotation? Seems so.

44 Jake Odorizzi MIL SP B 2.98 ERA, 111:31 K:BB in 90.2 innings should have him promoted soon.

46 Cody Scarpetta MIL SP B 1.21 ERA with 47 K in 32 IP in July. 10.5 K/9 on the year.

47 Trevor May PHI SP B Command got him demoted to A-, but thriving again now - 14 K in 7 IP in last start.

13 Arodyz Vizcaino ATL SP A- MRI revealed partial tear in
pitching elbow. Will rehab, but may be done for 2010.

24 Bryan Morris PIT SP B+ 15 ER over 14.2 IP in his last 3 GS. Had been quite good all year, so hopefully no injury.

29 Chris Withrow LAD SP B 6.75 ERA in July after 2.89 mark in June. Hopefully no injury here, just inconsistency.

35 Ethan Martin LAD SP B 12 BB in last 12 IP and 85:60 K:BB in 93 IP. Good upside, but time to drop him down for now.

41 Chad James FLA SP B Very inconsistent, but left-handed teenager with 9.3 K/9 in full-season ball is quite good.
