Prospect Spreadsheet Updates - July 28, 2011

David Regan

Trevor Bauer is the first 2011 draftee to make a debut on the top-50 lists. As others (Gerritt Cole and co.) start to sign, we'll have a bit of shuffling on these lists. As it stands, Bauer inking his name to a deal gives the Dbacks an enviable top four prospects, with Jarrod Parker showing signs he's healthy and worthy of a top-10 draft slot after Tommy John surgery. Paul Goldschmidt may be the best power prospect not named Bryce Harper, and Tyler Skaggs has proven to be the key piece in the deal involving Dan Haren.

National League

As always with these 20 updates, I will remind you that this is just a sampling of what you get each week as a Fantistics subscriber.

34 Yonder Alonso CIN 1B B Gomes trade opens up playing time. Should get most of the LF at-bats.

38 Wilmer Flores NYM SS B Bat still a future plus tool, but really hasn't shown much development this year.

40 Zack Cox STL 3B B .302/.359/.414 between A+ and AA. Just 6 HR, so upside questions persist.

41 Collin Cowgill ARI OF B .984 OPS and 30 SB gets him the promotion. Should play a lot in LF.

42 Jedd Gyorko SD 3B B Just .256 in 82 AA at-bats, but don't think that means he's just a product of the Cal League thin air.

1 Julio Teheran ATL SP A Dominant lately and a 1.67 ERA overall, but not sure he helps much this year.

3 Shelby Miller STL SP A 2.29 ERA in 10 AA starts and looking like he could help on Opening Day 2012.

13 Zack Wheeler NYM SP B+ Heads to the Mets in exchange for 2 months of Carlos Beltran. Could be a win-win deal.

15 Carlos Martinez STL SP B+ Has had some command issues since promotion, but ceiling remains sky high.

16 Trevor Bauer ARI SP B+ 2011 #3 overall pick could move very fast. Patterns himself after Tim Lincecum.

American League

3 Jesus Montero NYY C A .293 with 4 HR in July qualifies as his best month since April.

7 Desmond Jennings TB OF A- 6 hits and 3 SB in first three starts. Nice way to secure full-time duties.

8 Jurickson Profar TEX SS A- .346 in July and a 1.15 EYE on the year. 49% XBH% is outstanding as well.

29 Aaron Hicks MIN OF B+ .337 June and .180 July. Overall the .360 OBP is nice, but lacking in power and consistency.

43 Dayan Viciedo CHW OF B .870 OPS before hurting his thumb last weekend. Shouldn't be out too long.

6 Jake Odorizzi KC SP A- Texas League has been a little tougher - 4.71 ERA in five starts.

7 Martin Perez TEX SP A- 8.10 ERA in 3 AAA starts, so looking more like a 2012 guy.

9 Manny Banuelos NYY SP A- Slow start to July, but finished strong with 6.1 innings of one-run ball on Wednesday.

17 Mike Montgomery KC SP B+ Seemed to be turning it around and then 9 ER in 9 IP in last 2 GS.

37 Zach Stewart CHW SP B Traded in Edwin Jackson deal. Not sure what role will be with White Sox just yet.
