Hunter Renfroe (OF-LAA) went 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs against the Blue Jays on Sunday. Renfroe powered LA to a 3-2 victory by driving in all three of his team's runs. The first came on a sac fly in the third, while the other two came on a clutch go-ahead homer in the top of the 10th. It was Renfroe's 17th homer of the season and capped his third three-hit game in his last five contests, raising his average to .256. That's the highest it's been in over a month, and his OPS is up to .778 as well (his highest since late May). Renfroe is notoriously streaky and was 1-for-23 before his current heater, so fantasy managers will always have to ride the ups and downs with him. His overall numbers are still solid, even if his homer total is down a bit from last year.
Christian Yelich (OF-MIL) went 1-for-4 with a homer, two runs, two RBIs and a walk on Sunday against the Braves. Yelich smoked a solo homer in the third inning, but it wasn't enough to prevent the Brewers from an 8-6 loss. The dinger was his 16th of the season, seven of which have come in July as well as 22 of his 59 RBIs. Yelich has been back in MVP form this month, raising his average to .286 and his OPS to .849. Those numbers are right in line with his career marks of .287 and .842, plus they're much better than his underwhelming figures from 2020-2022. Yelich already has more home runs, RBIs and stolen bases than last year in 52 fewer games, making a major comeback in his age-31 season.
Bryan Reynolds (OF-PIT) went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer against the Phillies on Sunday. Reynolds sparked Pittsburgh to a come-from-behind 6-4 win at PNC Park, knotting the score at 2-2 with his two-run blast in the sixth inning. The dinger was his 12th of the season, three of which have come in his last seven games. It's encouraging to see Reynolds rediscover his power stroke after losing it for several months, going deep just four times over 77 games from April 8 - July 22. He now has multiple hits in four of his last eight games as well, bumping his average up to .258 and his OPS up to .758. Reynolds' numbers have declined for the second straight year, suggesting his big 2021 (.912 OPS, All-Star appearance) may end up being a career year for him. He's at least picked it up on the bases with a career-high eight thefts already (without getting caught), possibly as a result of the more favorable baserunning rules this year.
Cristopher Sanchez (SP-PHI) settled for a no-decision despite tossing five no-hit innings on Sunday against the Pirates. Sanchez yielded just two walks and struck out three over five scoreless frames at PNC Park, throwing 46 of his 73 pitches for strikes. It still wasn't enough to earn his first win of the season, however, as Philly's bullpen promptly blew his two-run lead in the sixth and ultimately lost the game. The 26-year-old southpaw is somehow 0-3 despite flashing a 2.76 ERA and a 41:8 K/BB ratio through nine starts this year. He's only averaging fewer than 5 1/3 innings per start, though, so it would help if he pitched deeper into games. Sanchez will have a great chance to finally end his winless streak with a juicy matchup against the pitiful Royals at home next weekend.
Alec Bohm (1B/3B-PHI) went 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs against the Pirates on Sunday. Bohm was one of the few offensive bright spots during Philly's 6-4 loss, driving in three of the team's four runs and accounting for three of the eight hits. Two of those came on his two-run blast off Rich Hill in the fourth inning that broke a scoreless tie. It was Bohm's 10th homer of the season but first since July 1, snapping a 22-game homerless streak. The lack of pop from Bohm continues to be disappointing given his status as a corner infielder, although he does have 65 RBIs thanks to his strong average (.284) in a potent lineup. Other than those two categories, however, the 26-year-old is still a middling fantasy option.
