Jacob Wilson SS ATH
Good for 157th place on the leaderboard: Barrel 2.9% in the 10th Percentile. 26.6% Hard hit in the 5th percentile and then yet-to-be substantiated Bat Speed in the 1st percentile at 63 MPH. He's hitting .342 with an OBP of .382, punctuated with 5 HR and 4 SBs, making him a useful SS in any format. Sure, the low power will likely cap HRs at 12-15 but with a batting average north of .300 and 12-15 SBs to go along with it, the lack of underlying love may not prevent Jacob from climbing the ladder of top 12 SS for 2025.
Steve Kwan OF CLE
Just below Jacob Wilson at 158th, Kwan's cracking the ball at a minimal 2.3% Barrel Rate. Hard hit rate 23% is in the 2nd percentile. Bat Speed in the 1st percentile at 63 MPH. Despite the below the hood horror, Kwan has an OPS over .800, 4HR and 7 SB. As an OF, he projects to finish with 15 HR and 30 SB with a batting average over .300. That will play just fine in any league, as the Guardian reminds us that Kwan still can hit the ball, nevermind the metrics.
Mookie Betts SS/OF LAD
This guy, heard of him? A bottom of the Barrel Rate of 3.7% sits next to a tiny 35% Hard Hit rate, alongside a surprising 7th percentile 68 MPH average bat speed. To be fair, Mookie makes up for this slumming metric mirage by Squaring Up the ball in the 100th percentile along with an elite low 9.2% K Rate. Bet on Betts to be bothered not by all the noise as he busies himself hitting baseballs effectively as his HOF-trajectory career continues in 2025. He's a curious case of the metrics not knowing what way is up, but we know: Betts is good at baseball.
Jung Hoo Lee OF SFG
Despite cranking 6 HR and nearing an .800 OPS, Lee's Barrel Rate is only 4%. Hard hit at 9th percentile at 29% and Bat Speed near 10th percentile at 68 MPH average bat speed. His 35% Square Up Rate is in the 93rd Percentile, so those hits must lead to good things, as evident by Lee's 6 HR and .282 BA. Just woo Lee to your team if you're in need of a strong BA floor and sneaky pop. He's pulling the ball for power here and there, so there's room to grow...maybe 20 HR is in reach for 2025.
Jake Meyers OF HOU
Clicking at an .800 OPS and something called a "batting average" of .302, Meyers is defying the underlying metrics that may be, in fact, lying: 5% Barrel Rate and tiny 10th percentile Bat Speed point to defiance. Another proponent of the Square Up approach (32%), Meyers is using his ability to hit the ball well (though not hard) and taking bases when he can. 8 SB with a .364 OBP will make Meyers a solid OF in 5 OF leagues and a keeper in AL Leagues. Monitor playing time, but when he's active, plug and play for speed and better than average average.
