Prospect Spreadsheet Updates - August 7, 2008

David Regan

American League

1 Matt Wieters BAL C A Think he wants a Sept. call-up? .441 in last 10 games. For the year: 1.03 EYE, 1.041 OPS.

5 Matt LaPorta CLE OF A- Just .212 in 52 at-bats for CLE before leaving to play for US Olympic team.

8 Jeff Clement SEA C A- Will lose prospect eligibility soon, but may not be able to avoid AAA at some point with his .178 AVG.

12 Austin Jackson NYY OF A- 8-for-16 in Aug. Strong finish could allow him to compete for CF job next spring.

13 Brandon Wood LAA 3B B+ 11 HR in Jul, 3 already in Aug. Still striking out a lot, but Angels need to give him another chance.

2 David Price TAM SP A Ho-hum…7 IP, 1 ER, 10 K in last start. Now 10-0 with a 1.97 ERA. Tampa anyone?

4 Neftali Feliz TEX SP A 105+ innings now after just 42 last year so look for workload to continue to be curtailed.

5 Rick Porcello DET SP A 3 ER in last 15 IP over 3 starts. 2.81 ERA in 21 GS as a teenager in High-A is impressive indeed.

7 Trevor Cahill OAK SP A- 19 BB in 37 AA innings is surprising, but still 6-1, 2.17 in 7 G at that level.

8 Wade Davis TAM SP A- 2.25 ERA in 4 AA starts so he's adjusting well. 7.1 K/9 is low for him but not a big concern.

National League

41 Alicedes Escobar MIL SS B Great year - XBH% up from 13.9% to 19.6% and EYE From 0.25 to 0.38.

42 Matt Antonelli SD 2B B Zero consistency. He'll have a couple 2-hit games and then rip off an 0-for-15.

47 Logan Morrison FLA 1B B 21 in 3 weeks. Just killing the ball - .396 in July and .590 in last 10 G.

48 Brett Wallace STL 1B B .346/.433/.577. Be nice to see him in AA by year's end. Turns 22 late this month.

50 Jason Donald PHI SS B Seems like the Phils have a decent SS already, but some team can use Donald's .897 OPS.

32 Ross Detwiler WAS SP B Back-to-back QSs has ERA down to 5.16. 6'5" lefties that throw hard don't grow on trees.

35 Tim Alderson SF SP B Solid first full season. A very good sign - improving strikeout rate: 9.3 K/9 after July. 7.4 pre-July.

37 Chris Perez STL RP B 8 appearances since being sent back down: 7 scoreless and one five-run outing. Just a bad day.

42 Scott Elbert LAD SP B 2 BB in last 6 IP. We assume he'll return to being a starter next year, but that remains to be seen.

45 Jess Todd STL SP B 2.65 ERA and 113:29 K:BB in 123.1 innings gets him a crack at the top 50.
