Prospect Spreadsheet Updates - July 9, 2009

David Regan

In case you're wondering, I'm not adding 2009 draftees until they sign a pro contract. Stephen Strasburg for example, isn't likely to sign until just prior to the August 15 deadline.

American League

30 Lars Anderson BOS 1B B .299 AVG since a .194 May but also just 2 HR since that month. Perhaps a bit overhyped.

31 Aaron Hicks MIN OF B 7-for-38 in last 11 games but you have to like an 11:13 K:BB in 14 games overall.

35 Tyler Flowers CHW C B .338 with 4 HR in June, but will need a huge finish for 2010 starting catcher consideration.

46 Lonnie Chisenhall CLE 3B B 9-game hit streak leaves him at .285/.364/.500. First round pick in 2008 draft.

47 Jordan Danks CHW OF B 3 weeks off due to a sprained wrist, but he's back. .867 OPS since promotion to AA.

3 Brian Matusz BAL SP A 3-0, 0.49 ERA in 3 GS since AA promotion. 96:27 K:BB in 85 innings on the year.

4 Chris Tillman BAL SP A- 7 shutout innings lowers AAA ERA to 2.89. On track for a September debut if not before.

10 Jake Arrieta BAL SP A- One bad AAA start but just 3 ER allowed overall in other four. 90:30 K:BB in 82 2/3 IP.

14 Jordan Walden LAA SP B+ 2.05 ERA in June but a rocky first start in July. On path for a mid-2010 debut.

18 Mike Montgomery KC SP B+ 1 ER or less in 8 of his 9 starts. 5 BB last time out was hopefully a fluke.

National League

2 Buster Posey SF C A .294 so far in July but he must be getting bored with the Cal league by now - .947 OPS.

3 Jason Heyward ATL OF A It's rare to see someone in AA at age 19 - those guys are special. 5-for-12 start (2 triples) there.

5 Pedro Alvarez PIT 3B A 4-game hit streak, but with all his hype, a .798 OPS has to be considered a letdown.

9 Mike Stanton FLA OF A- Just .204 in AA, but power is still there with 5 HR in 108 at-bats.

18 Michael Taylor PHI OF A- Just .222 so far in July, but it's early obviously. Focus more on the .985 OPS and 14 SB.

42 Julio Teheran ATL SP B 2.35 ERA and 13:2 K:BB in 15 1/3 innings in 3 GS so far. Next great ATL SP prospect? NL

44 Drew Storen WAS RP B 6.75 ERA, but 11:0 K:BB in eight innings. He'll be just fine. Love to see him move back to starting. NL

45 Eric Arnett MIL SP B 8.31 ERA but just 4 1/3 innings as he's eased into pro ball. Give him time. NL

46 Scott Elbert LAD SP B 6 ER and 10 H in 5 IP last time out despite 6:1 K:BB. 12.3 K/9 on the year. NL

49 Jenrry Mejia NYM SP B Still adding velocity and already at AA. Signed for just $20k as an int'l f/a three years ago. NL
