Spencer Torkelson-Tigers-1B
Spencer Torkelson was 1-4 with an HR (22) against the Blue Jays. Torkelson has bounced back in July (.281 AVG with 5 HR, 12 R, 10 RBI, and 0 SB) after a dismal June (.207 AVG with 3 HR, 11 R, 8 RBI, and 0 SB). This year, he is hitting .239 with 22 HR, 58 R, 60 RBI, and 1 SB. He has shown improved plate skills (11% BB and 24% K) to go along with improved quality of contact (15% Barrels). This has resulted in a season closer to Torkelson's first full season in the major leagues (2023, .233 AVG with 33 HR, 88 R, 94 RBI, and 3 SB). He isn't going to reach the ceiling of his prospect hype, but he is still a valuable fantasy asset when he hits .230-.240 with 30+ HR.
George Springer-Blue Jays-OF
George Springer was 1-4 with a run scored against the Tigers. Springer has been red hot in July (.358 AVG with 6 HR, 19 R, 15 RBI, and 3 SB). His season line is now a .283 AVG with 17 HR, 61 R, 55 RBI, and 12 SB. The main positive for Springer has been health. He has been healthy this year, and it has shown in his stat line and underlying skills (13% K, 19% K, and 14% Barrels). Springer is on pace for a 25 HR/15 SB season with a .260-.270 AVG, which makes him a five-category contributor.
Jordan Westburg-Orioles-3B
Jordan Westburg was 1-4 with a run scored against the Guardians. Westburg has had an up-and-down sophomore season that has centered around injuries. He has been healthy in July, and it has shown on the field (.327 AVG with 3 HR, 13 R, 7 RBI, and 0 SB). The problem for Westburg is that he needs to play every day to accumulate stats because he doesn't have any elite skills. This year, he is hitting .256 with 10 HR, 34 R, 21 RBI, and 1 SB. Westburg has solid plate skills (5% BB and 24% K) and hits the ball hard (13% Barrels and 44% Hardhit). His fly ball tendencies (42% FB) drive down his average despite a decent strikeout rate and the ability to hit the ball hard. He is on pace for a season similar to last year (107 GP, .264 AVG, 18 HR, 57 R, 63 RBI, and 6 SB). The hope was that he would play a full season and go 25 HR/10 SB with better counting stats, but injuries have thrown that out the window.
Josh Naylor-Mariner-1B
Josh Naylor was traded to the Mariners on Thursday night for a package of minor leaguers. Naylor should provide an offensive boost to the Mariners' lineup. He is hitting .292 with 11 HR, 49 R, 59 RBI, and 11 SB. The Mariners park isn't great for hitters, but it is harder on right-handers than left-handers. Naylor has excellent plate skills (9% BB and 12% K) and hits the ball hard enough (7% Barrels and 40% Hardhit) to have 15-20 HR power. He may not be elite in any one category, but he is providing value across the board.
Masyn Winn-Cardinals-SS
Masyn Winn was 0-4 against the Padres. Through 92 GP, Winn is hitting .266 with 7 HR, 57 R, 34 RBI, and 6 SB. He has been solid but not great. There was some belief that he could add to his breakout 2024 season (.267 AVG with 15 HR/11 SB) and get closer to a 20 HR/20 SB season. He is on pace for a very similar season to a year ago. Everything across the board looks nearly identical to last year. The only difference is a small increase in barrel rate and fly ball percentage. These are encouraging signs despite not showing up in the power department. Winn has been unlucky in terms of home runs per flyball. If he continues to hit the ball harder and in the air, we should see more home runs from him. Nothing special, but he could cross the 20 HR plateau over a full season with 5% Barrels and 41% FB. Winn is more valuable the deeper the league because he doesn't have a carrying tool, but is solid across the board.
